Robert Blair Carabuena Vs MMDA

Robert Blair Carabuena is the latest trending topic in social media for allegedly mauling MMDA traffic officer Saturnino Fabros. The show of arrogance as some of "his friends" claimed, happened only because the MMDA man slammed on his Volvo. Regardless if there is any truth to the cause of such volatile behavior, it is quite obvious who came out the better man in the end.

Zooming out, #Carabuena's attitude mirrored a society most have tolerated. For it is an epitome of a system where the reckless have's lord over the docile have-not's, worse it is also a reflection of how much respect our citizens have for our uniformed men whose names don't strike fear or awe.

In a system where the law tips in favor of those who can buy it, Carabuena is suddenly the name to vent the hate on, when in fact, incidents like this has happened many times over. Just check out any local queues, once a "V.I.P." comes in, they are led to a special lane o

r is exempted to fall in line regardless if they are not on official duty. Surely, the stinging slap that the MMDA officer got from Carabuena is as much painful as for all those who had been in any line patiently waiting for their turn only to be bullied by the arrogance of those who are privileged.

Again I say, Noblesse Oblige, PRIVILEGE ENTAILS RESPONSIBILITY.

Education should have instilled humility and the uniform should have commanded respect. Unfortunately, such is just not that easy in a society where education is merely a means to an end and a "uniform" is nothing but a reminder of corruption and abuse of power.

The cycle just goes on, no amount of hate pages can break the cycle until we all work on the cause and not at its symptoms.

A Petition Of Cagayan de Oro Councilor

Dear Councilor Alvin R Calingin:

When one’s political stench can already be so overpowering, any Shakespearean attempt to call ‘a rose by any other name,’ with the belief this would remain to 'smell as sweet', obnoxiously ‘infects the air whereon (the sponsor) rides'—or so the play Macbeth reminds. On Tuesday, July 10, 2012, you filed three resolutions, one of which is to rename Antonio Montalvan St. as “Felix Y. Manalo St.” in honor of the founder of Iglesia ni Cristo (INC). In the same vein, a second resolution seeks to rename the road from the junction of Concordio Diel St. and Villarin St. in Barangay Carmen to the landfill in upper Dagong up to the boundary of Barangay Canitoan as “EraƱo V. Manalo St.” in honor of INC’s former executive minister. The third seeks to declare July 27, 2012, and every year thereafter, as INC Day in Cagayan de Oro City (Source: Mindanao Gold Star Daily, July 13, 2012).

In case our local Historical and Cultural Commission has failed to provide you lessons of local history, Antonio Montalvan St used to be Biak-na-Bato St. The late Antonio J. Montalvan was captured, tortured and beheaded by the Japanese Kempeitai for his espionage work during World War 2 and was part of the preparations for the eventual return of General Douglas MacArthur to the Philippines. For his intrepid feat, President Manuel Roxas recommended him to receive posthumously the Distinguished Service Star, to remind Filipinos that many of us continue to live today because of the gallantry of such men as Montalvan and those beheaded with him.

Your proposal to rename a street that strips our local hero of his honor adds to the disgusting series of historical carnage this current administration has committed over the years—from the desecration of the Huluga Archeological Site to the effortless surrender of CDO as a ‘carne norte’ brand. We deplore this pattern of wanton disrespect towards the preservation of local heritage, coming no less from a cabal of officials that takes no time to even consult with the community. Indeed, it has become easier for us to sniff and sieve through the mathematics of your motive: Felix Manalo was the founder of the Iglesia ni Kristo, which has their local church along Montalvan St. The Iglesia ni Kristo ensures candidates to win by way of their block voting. Any kindergarten can readily do the arithmetic for us.

We ̶p̶r̶o̶t̶e̶s̶t̶ condemn your shameless intent to curry favor to a religious sect, and pander to your political machination well ahead of the 2013 electoral exercise.

WE VEHEMENTLY OPPOSE THE RENAMING OF ANTONIO MONTALVAN AND CORDOCIO DIEL STREETS AFTER THE MANALOS!

Signed 16 July 2012.

Congressmen For Others

I know this post is very very very very late but they said that it's better late than never..lolz. You wonder why my title is Congressmen for others? Have you remember typhoon Sendong who hit some part of the Mindanao and the most affected cities are the City of Water falls Iligan City and the City of Golden Friendship Cagayan de Oro last December 2011. These 12 kabarkada of congressmen with golden heart shared their blessings to the victim of typhoon sendong. They donate 1 house each for the victim through Gawad Kalinga (GK). The project was lead by Congressman Luigi Quisumbing of Cebu City. We would like to thanks Happy Eggs Eatery Cagayan de Oro where these 12 congressmen ate their breakfast and Congressman Luigi Quisumbing for the lechon he gave to the bloggers all the way from Cebu City and to congressmen who shared their blessing to the victim of Typhoon Sendong.

K To12 Education Program Of The Philippines

I read and hear lots of complains about this K+12 program education of our Philippine Government. If the government have basis and good points about this K+12 program why not show it in the public and explain why they add 2 years mores in education. I'm pretty sure that lots of parents did not understand why government add 2 more years especially those people who are leaving in the mountains and far from the City. I don't think so if these people understand or somebody explain it to them why government add 2 more years in education. You are only updating your website but not your people who leave in the mountains and across the rivers.   President NoyNoy Aquino say's

"we are one of the few countries remaining na four years lang ang high school so dapat lang daw add 2 more years to improve the quality of education."

So adding 2 more years in education is the only solution? Since you are talking about quality education, let me show you an example

How about the nurses, engineers, chefs, businessman, fashion designers and some professionals who excel in other countries? Most of them are Filipinos na four years lang nag high school? It's not in the number of years its the quality of education and its the way how teachers teach their students at ang tamang diskarte sa sarili when they finished schools and face the reality in life...

Why not be strict on hiring of teachers, make the hiring system of the teachers difficult, make the standards and qualification of the teachers high both private and government schools not in (lakas-lakas system). Did you think this before it was implemented? Imagine a 3 years old kid will now start her/his nursery school supposed to be she/he will be enjoying the childhood moment. Imagine some parents went to schools to inquire about the toddler for the preparation of their kids in nursery..WTF..!!!! 1-2 yr. old baby will be in the toddler school?? Did you think this????

The people behind this new program of K+12 think and put their life or their family in the situation where in A 3-yr. old child going to school before it was implemented?

How can you imagine 1-2 years old baby in toddler school?

How can this age learn in the school?
How they focus in school?
Most of them are crying and they are looking for their parents.
Students don't have the same mentality.
Is the government assures that after they graduate they can easily get jobs?

Don't just copy the system of the other countries instead be creative on how the Philippine government improve on what it was done before. Filipinos are very talented and creative kind of people.

Illegal Recruiter

I just read this post on Facebook to a person who was a victim of this ILLEGAL RECRUITER. 61 of them was a victim this Illegal Recruiter. He destroy lives, dreams, families and he put their dreams into hell. I would like to share this story to capture this asshole and pay on what he was done. If you have heart please share this post to help his victim.

PLEASE READ!!! Help us find this person - he has destroyed 61 LIVES (as far as we know).

This person came into our lives, pretending to be someone else, pretending to be a good christian, pretending to be someone who wants nothing more but to help others. We all saw him as an angel however he brought us to our doom.

He recruited 60 people in Bacolod and gave us hope. He told us that he can help us go to Dubai by securing us jobs in a famous hotel. He said that he has a sister there who regularly recruits at least 30 people per quarter although they only limit their referrals to their relatives. However he said that he can open the application process for us because his aunt in Manila, who is the one who usually facilitates the recruitment, has duped his sister and asked applicants more money than they were supposed to give.

We were supposed to give P20,000 as security deposit that will be refunded as soon as our documents such as contracts, job orders Visas and plane tickets will arrive. The P20,000 was supposed to scare us from backing out and cancelling our application. By cancelling our application, we will leave his sister liable to pay P80,000 to the hotel where we were supposed to work.

We all believed him. He appeared smart, charismatic and honest that is why we all bought the explanations that he provided us whenever we asked about the legitimacy of the jobs that he was offering us. He has close friends in the call center that he was working with and we all saw him as a kind person who wants nothing more but to help others especially during their times of need.

He fed on our desperation, our wild hopes, that finally we have found something that can get us out of the hardship that all 61 of us are experiencing. Like one of my friends said, he brought us to heaven and suddenly let go of us in order to fall back to our own personal hell - and more!

We made changes in our lives, a huge chunk of the 61 applicants quit their jobs, in order to accommodate the magical opportunity that he has offered us. There are also those who have no money at all who decided to borrow money with high interest, thinking that they would be able to pay them all as soon as they start working. There are others who sold their livestock, thinking that their families would be able to regain their sources of income once they start sending money to the Philippines. There are those who started to use money that they have put away for the rainy days, thinking that they would be able to replenish it with the salary that they will b earning in Dubai.

We all prepared. We bought clothes using money that has also been borrowed from others. We told people we owe that we will be finally be able to pay them off after long years of indebtedness. We hoped. We looked forward to the future. We were happy that this angel has fallen from heaven to help us with our lives.

On that fateful day of February 27, 2012, the day that our documents were supposed to arrived, the day when we were supposed to get our money back, the day that we were supposed to face our employers through a conference call, this person has disappeared without a trace. Taking with him all our hopes, dreams and our money.

Most of us now don't have jobs, with little opportunities of employment because we left out previous jobs abruptly. Some of us are professionals who worked as managers in one of the top fast food companies in the Philippines. Some of us are students who chose to stop our studies in order to take part in this dream. Some of us are professionals who left our jobs withe the hope that we could be able to provide a better future for our family. But most of us are poor people, with almost no one to turn to in times of need. We were the ones who had to do hard labor for long periods of time in order to feed our families at least once a day. We are the ones who had to go to our richer relatives in order to borrow money, ready to be treated as low lives and be ordered around like animals in order to be lent that P20,000 that we so badly need in order to get out of poverty. We tried getting up our feet only to be pushed back to an even deeper mess and desperation.

So PLEASE HELP US FIND THIS PERSON. This may be a desperate call for help but a bit of justice will be enough to bring a little bit of comfort to our chaotic lives.

Keep on sharing until we finally find this wolf who has appeared in sheep's clothing.

If you know or saw this person you can contact Rea Stephanie Ramos on her facebook who published about this Illegal Recruiter.

Most Ateneans Do Wrong After Graduation

I just read this article to a friend who graduated at Ateneo which he gave here own observation about what happened to most Ateneans after graduation. I would to share this to everybody and hopefully you will get a lesson from this post not only who are graduated in Ateneo but to everybody..

I was having dinner with my boss and her husband (all three of us Ateneans) when we talked about the difference with how Gloria and Noynoy sees life. Gloria being the realistic one and Noynoy being the usual, ideal Atenean. Then her husband started narrating about how only few Ateneans become successful in life at the age of 40, with his roster of friends as a perfect example. People at the age of 40 who still don’t own a car and cannot even settle down for once. Or worst, they just realized the right thing to do to become successful but it was too late already. And here are the things we talked about over dinner, and his advice to fresh graduate Ateneans like me. And this made sense, I am telling you. THIS WILL BE MY DIRECTION IN LIFE.

1. Having our heads up “on the hill” a.k.a too much self-esteem/ Atenean pride

The first thing that I realized when I worked is wherever you work, you can never use your school as your ticket to success. It can be an advantage for you at first, but if you only use the school name as your claim to fame, then you’re doomed. He said that the flaw of his Atenean employees (he has 120 employees all over the Philippines, btw) is that they NEVER would want to report to someone who came from a school which they think is too low for their standards. They believe that they’re smarter than their boss, who for example came from AMA or STI. But ofcourse, there’s a reason why that person became the boss. And that’s one thing you don’t have that’s why you’re the employee. Ateneans always assume that because they graduated from a good school, they should always get the jobs that would fit their high standards. And I have noticed this with my friends who always wonder why I stick to my job even though I only photocopy and print most of the time, and do errands. ARteneans always expect job to be convenient. But all things always start from scratch, and you start at the dirt bottom of it all. And if I had to photocopy, then I’d do it, because it’s part of my job. And this is what we lack, this right attitude called HUMILITY.

2. We have the right education, but not the right attitude: Humility

He told me about how he learned humility the hard way. He used to have the Atenean attitude of being so mayabang, complaining too much (I used to do this, and ALL of my working friends complain a lot, and compare bosses too). And this is one thing we should get rid of. Because for one, employers would prefer hiring people who would do EVERYTHING, even though it’s not part of your job description, because it only shows that you are a very good asset to the company. You are bringing so much to the table that the boss will give you more opportunities to excel because you’re willing. If you had to commute to faraway places, buy flowers in the afternoon, buy this and go to the office on Saturday, or even deliver things yourself because of the lack of manpower, YOU SHOULD DO IT. Because it only shows how determined you are to keep your job. Stop computing if your salary would compensate for the difficult things that you’d do. You should be so good that you can replace your boss. You are so good that he/she needs you so much to function. Why would they hire someone who does not make things happen? Who will just let the situation pass and wouldn’t move mountains to give the boss decent answers or suggestions?

3. The Employer Thinking vs. The Employee Thinking: Thinking LIKE A BOSS

To be the best worker, you should think as the EMPLOYER. How? You should always be wary of all the things your boss needs, prefers, etc. Will my boss like this attitude? What will my boss think if I say this? or that? Will this be good for the company? What else does he/she needs for the next day? What else should I do so that he wouldn’t worry? You should be good in assessing the things your boss likes and needs, because its also part of you becoming the boss someday. You are doing good in work and at the same time you are honing yourself to becoming the next boss by thinking like a boss, and not thinking like an employee. Over-think, over-analyze, be AHEAD of the game. If you keep on thinking like an employee, you’ll be an employee FOREVER.

4. Having side goals - for GROWTH

The wrong attitude that people have is that they are so narrow-minded with opportunities. I could say that I am doing well on this part, because I am working now for my dream job. My boss’ husband said, that while you have your work now, and EVEN IF IT’S NOT THE JOB YOU WANT, you should be good because it will prepare you for the work that you’ll have to do once you have the job you want. It’s not necessary that you start with your dream job, like what I said, humility - accept the job even if it’s not your dream job, and do good with it because it will be your first step in mastering the art of working. It’s also good that you have goals on the side and you are open to other opportunities because it will make you grow. It will inspire you to dream bigger and achieve that almost impossible goal. Save up for it if you really want it. If your dream is to become a dancer, even if you think it won’t sustain you for life, money will come to you if you keep on doing what you like and you have the right attitude. It may be a long road, but if you really want it, then you’ll get it no matter the consequences.

5. Keeping the FAITH. Avoid short-cuts.

We Ateneans always want the SHORT-CUT. But the way to success, is always long and winding, and VERY HARD. For my boss, it took them more than 10 years to reap the good life. At first they said, you will feel afraid because you are clueless of what will happen in the future. Everybody will have that phase. But IF YOU WORK HARD, AND YOU HAVE THE RIGHT ATTITUDE, of course God would notice and give you the blessings you deserve. At the age of 40 most people ask, how come God never gave me the opportunity? God always gives us the opportunity, but we never found the right attitude that came with the opportunity. And this includes the long wait. Work hard and blessings will come — TREMENDOUSLY, and you’ll never know. Like what they said, they couldn’t imagine that they have gone this far because it used to be, that all things were uncertain. But they kept on working hard. 10 years is a long way to go, but it’s all worth it.

6. Having the right people around you — BE SUPPORTIVE of your partner

Get a partner who wouldn’t pull you down. If your partner needs to go home late to do over-time, you better support him/her. It’s for your future. Both of you needs to sustain each other’s passion for work because it will be the thing that you will bank on when you will have a family. Encourage your partner to do better even if work is really hard. If you trust that both of you will end up together, then quit arguing about not having enough time. If you clearly understand both of your goals, then you will inspire each other and compromise for that lost time instead of dwelling too much on how toxic work has become.

7. Being men and women for others — THE RIGHT WAY

We Ateneans, are SO opinionated that we believe so much our opinion would change the course of the world. But the truth is, real life beyond the school grounds SUCKS BIG TIME. It’s so complicated, full of doubts, it’s something you cannot describe but you have to experience it. We should stop talking too much — pointing out faults of others, praising ourselves that we do the right things all the time when in fact we only blabber a lot. Being real men and women for others means you have to WORK FOR IT. For example, having a successful company would also mean getting more employees and providing opportunities. It’s not always about service and practicing humility by going to typhoon victims. It’s also about making others lives more bearable, more stable, giving them growth. And when you do this, you are not only changing someone’s life for a day by giving out cash donations, or being a volunteer, you are CHANGING THE COURSE OF THEIR LIVES AND THEIR FAMILIES. You ARE MAKING A LONG-TERM CHANGE that will alter the difficult situation of the people who deserve it.

I couldn’t agree more on what we talked about and I want you to share this with other Ateneans. I hope I wouldn’t be bashed for this post. You know naman some Ateneans love correcting grammar and seeing faults on the opinion of others. I just want others to be aware and make the right head-start. So let’s take this by heart and make that successful future a reality!
